Historic estate located near a lake in a picturesque countryside setting in Central Bohemia, just 1 hour drive to/from Prague.
The villa was originally built in the 14th century but was rebuilt several times and acquired its current appearance in the second half of the 17th century.
At different times in the past the property belonged to the local aristocracy, then became a Summer residence of the Roman Catholic Jesuit order and eventually was bought by a well-known Austrian noble family.
The villa's architecture and interior show features typical of the baroque style mixed with some medieval influence.
In 1999 the castle underwent a thorough restoration and was converted into a boutique luxury hotel.
The castle is located in a low hill district near a village with 200 inhabitants mainly working in agriculture and farming. The region is characterised by a mild climate with moderate summer and winter temperatures. The lake was created in the 15th century to be used for fish breeding, and is still used for these purposes. The owners of the castle have a right to fish in the lake; there are pathways leading from the castle down to the lake and along the shore. The forest that surrounds the lake is inhabited by deer, boars and wild goats.
When it was still used as a hotel, the castle used to be rented out for some weekends every year to aristocratic families from Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland that would use it as their base for hunting in the nearby forests.
